The other thing that may become an issue- what if Israel qualifies for that World Cup?

Qatar has already stated that if Israel qualifies it will issue visas.  Qatar is not Syria.   

I assume the USA would have been required to make the same concession if either North Korea or Libya was to qualify.  If the USA did not make such a promise as part of the bid it would be grounds to reject the American bid.

It may not matter if you recently hosted, but it does matter if the country has never hosted one in the past.  If they haven't that weighs into the decision.  Neither Russia nor Qatar have hosted before.  That factored into the decision, I guarantee it.

However, we've hosted just a few World Cups ago.  It's hard for me to think that we really got shafted.

I wonder why they don't have this competition more often -- like every 2 years or 3 years.  People really seem to like it.  Why not?
Dave we hosted in 1994. This was given out for 2022. That's a lifetime for many people.
