The World Cup locations were announced and England, Spain/Portugal, and the US got denied in favor of RUssia and Qatar.
Does this surprise anyone considering the level of corruption at FIFA?

Real smart FIFA. Lets play a tournament in a country where the average summer temperature is 100 degrees...

They better have thousands of gallons of bottled water if they're playing in Qatar.  And thousands of parkas if they're playing in Russia.  I wonder if soccer players can play wearing insulated boots.

Talk about two opposite climates.

The head medical doctor was creating a fuss about the US hosting in 94 because of the heat in the locations, yet he has remained surprisingly mum on the idea of soccer in Qatar.

Not knowing anything about the venues in Qatar, I would assume that at least some if not all of them are enclosed with air conditioning.  I'm just guessing though.

There are no venues yet. They are going to build them, and are saying they will build them to be air-conditioned. They are also limited on space so will only be building two (three at the most) venues, which will host all the games. This creates a major logistics issue.

I'm pissed, and I'm not Jewish. I'm just a soccer fan who thinks the US got shafted.

With both the world cup and the superbowl -- i think the rule ought be win it and you get to host it next time.

The US doesn't deserve it anymore than anyone else, though.  Sure, I want us to get it because I'm from here and I think it would be good for our economy and I think that we have good international values for the most part and all that...

However, we've hosted just a few World Cups ago.  It's hard for me to think that we really got shafted.

I wonder why they don't have this competition more often -- like every 2 years or 3 years.  People really seem to like it.  Why not?

Like the olympics having it less often makes it more special.  Plus in world cup years it interferes with the other leagues.

It doesn't matter that the US recently hosted in the past (by the way, it was 1994- meaning if the US won, there would've been 6 World Cups between the last time the US hosted and 2022). That has never factored in the criteria to elect the next host (the official criteria is as long as that continental confederation has not hosted either of the past two World Cups)

The US got shafted when you look at some of the factors they usually DO use to determine who hosts the World Cup- they look at factors such as venues, infrastructure to accommodate the traffic, hotels, "world class" cities, economic stability of the country, the countries overall ability to host an international tournament. Qatar is a country with one major city, in a region of the world which is somewhat unstable, has no venues already in existence, and has never hosted any sort of global event. There have also been allegations of bribery, which led to some suspensions for FIFA officials.

If they were not going to give it to the US, Australia would've been the next logical choice of the countries bidding.

If you are worried about security, lets hold a international sporting event in the backyard of AL Qaeda and other groups.

Exactly!

The other thing that may become an issue- what if Israel qualifies for that World Cup?
