How bad is John Beck?  He seems to have fallen out of favor with everyone, but are we ready to dump a guy after just a few games played?

What says you?

Let him watch, listen, and learn, and see if he can apply anything from watching and learning at next season's camp.

I chose to let him ride the bench for the year, not because I think that he's any good, but just because I think we owe it to ourselves to see if the draft pick was worth it.  I'm always a forgiving guy when it comes to football players, but for some reason, I just can't make excuses for Beck.  He looks so terrible at every opportunity to me.

I hope I'm wrong and he turns out great, but I never see him being even good enough to be a backup in this league.

Let's see what happens with the final cuts today.  If a more serviceable backup is avaiable, cut him loose.  If not, keep him and let him ride the pine for the season, then allow him one more shot next training camp.

Hopefully he can get into a game, and by a stroke from the gods have the game of his life.  Then we can trade him to some sucker team like Philly did with that Feely guy a few years ago.

I see him being inactive every week.  He'll be designated as the third QB though, meaning he can only come in if both Chads go down, and then neither one of them can come back in the rest of the game.

Not true - this only applies before the 4th quarter

According to the latest depth chart, Beck is now #2. Not sure what has prompted this change.

Depth charts don't mean squat.  It's all about whether or not which QB is active for the game.

There is a change, that was my point. Beck was not active for the Jets game. So why did Sparano decide to do it the other way around for the Cardinals game? (Providing he has, depth charts are subject to change at any time).

I wanted to make another point:

I think that Beck's time here is related to the health of our other QBs.  If Pennington plays fairly well and stays healthy for the whole year, our need to keep Beck around diminishes quickly.  You also don't really need two "project" QBs on the same team, so if Henne is the project and Pennington's the veteran, Beck is kinda the odd man out.

I disagree, Dave (shocker!).  On a team that has had 20 different QB's in the past 8 seasons, I have 10 project QB's if they let me.  More chance that one will pan out to be good.

And, Tommy, I am pretty sure that no 3rd QB on any team is ever "inactive".  If he's dressed on the sidelines, he's active.
