i was actually thinking of being a police officer and work up to being a detective, Don't know if there is a police academy in Maine.I am thinking of at least being a summer officer.

A summer officer?  Is that like a reserve or something?

both, you could be a summer officer and a reserve (if they need you, they will call you). Obviously during the winter months there really is much need for officers.

On New Years I had a few Buddies over , one I went through the academy with. We got to talking and I had forgotten about all the kooks we had in that class! We laughed our asses off ! 10 years later and more than half of them are not in Law Enforcement anymore.  Hell......a good Percentage after making it through the Academy were not able to land a Job because they couldn't make it through the Field Training. Thank God for Lie Detector tests and Psych tests because a lot of people in class 101 were not Fit for duty!

Off topic but, didn't think it was worth a thread.

Do you work for the Palm Beach County Sheriffs Department?  Does anyone you know.

Reason I ask is that Feb 20 there is a charity softball game between them and some NFL players.

A most excellent movie always good for a laugh, I liked the sequals but I've noticed that some of the lines are missing.   Specifically Police Acadamy 5 when they play it on HBO.  The Elevator Fart scene is cut considerably as is the car scene with the Jelly Donut infront of the hotel.  Also when Lassard's nephew writes dork in sunscreen on Harris's chest some of the language has been removed.

The only thing worth watching in the 7th one was seeing Callahan in her lingerie outside of that I wasn't too impressed.  They seemed to have jumped the shark when they added Zed to the police force if not earlier.  Still Tackleberry is probably my second favorite cop right behind Dirty Harry.

To tell you how bad the movies were, I was hoping this thread was about a real police academy.

HA!

I saw the first one the other day and enjoyed it.  Probably just a nostalgia thing.

Summer, or part time officers, have pretty strict requirements.  You'll find most of those positions are taken by people in school to become full time officers, you can't just stroll in and apply - so you'll need to get busy if you want to be ready for the summer:

In Maine you'll need to have the following under your belt:

21+, 60 college credit hours, be in good physical condition, pass a back ground check, pass a physical endurance test, have a very good driving record and pass a polygraph test.  You'll  need the 100 hour pre service training and Maine's Criminal Justice Academy.  That pre service training for this year is 5/9 - 6/12.  However before MCJA will even look at your application for that 100 hour training you need to pass the MCJA ALERT test.

You might want to check out MCJA's web site and do some research:

http://www.state.me.us/dps/mcja/about/index.htm

Summer / reserve officers generally make about $13 an hour and are not certified to carry anything beyond a flashlight.  No mace, no pepperspray, certainly not a firearm.  You need to graduate from the actual full blown academy before you are able to do any of that.

Hope this helps!

The first one was great. The next 54.3 movies were garbage.
