Ginn needs to sit down and talk with management and review his numbers.  He got us 1 win this year on his own, so he has that stat -- but he's also responsible for a loss or two.  More importantly, he's getting 1st round money that we need to use on a real #1 receiver.

So, I think we have a little chat that goes something like -- "On this team, you're going to be a 3rd or 4th receiver and kick returner.  We will be paying you as such, should you choose to stay."

Otherwise, we have to let him go.  I say we do it as soon as the season is over -- no more waiting for him to learn.  One thing I've liked about this regime is their ability to cut their losses and move on.  I think it's that time for Ginn.

Agreed. He shouldn't be making first round money.

Excellent point there Dave, and if there is a time to do it, it is this offeason when 2010 is uncapped.

Here are a couple other players that should be approached about taking a pay cut or getting the ultimate cut:

Joey Porter-  I know he's stepped it up the past couple games.  If anything, he should be told to tone down his antics and put up numbers like he did in 2008.

Gibril Wilson-  Is he even getting any playing time with the emergence of Chris Clemons??  I don't hear his name at all.

Phillip Merling-  The top second round pick from last season has regressed to the point where he's not even starting.  He's clearly not used to being in the 3-4  Seeing as he played in a 4-3 in college, we might be wise to dump him for a true 3-4 DE if Randy Starts continues to excel.

Ronnie Brown-  When healthy, he's a Pro Bowl back...... healthy being the operative word.  The problem is, he just can't seem to stay that way.  He has played five seasons and only made it all the way through one of them.   Two of the other four ended about halfway through with serious injuries.

It's common to use weight-clauses in contracts for linemen. I think management needs to give Ginn the following ultimatum: Add 10 pounds of muscle or find a new team.

(There's no way Ginn weighs the same as Percy Harvin, for example, although their both listed as about 180lb and 5-11).

Couldn't we trade Ginn if he doesn't want to renegotiate?

I'm sure he's worth a late-rounder

Worth a practice squad special teams player.

How come everyone  keeps forgetting Jason Allen? Ginn has contributed more thanhim but Jason been getting a free pass the last ouple of years.

Note: I'm not saying Ginn deserves better just that it appears Jason is getting a free pass!!

Jason Allen may be released this offseason according to my WQAM media sources.

ginn's contract:

$19.6 million contract. The deal includes $14 million guaranteed. 2009: $677,917, 2010: $1,035,833, 2011: $1,393,750, 2012: $1,801,667 (Voidable Year), 2013: Free Agent

he is signed through 2012. cut him now and its roughly $4.2 million against the cap without factoring in the guaranteed money, which i think the remaining amount would accelerate into the year that you cut him. i.e. add another $8.4 million to that...

so if you cut him now, with the guaranteed money, it'll cost you $12.6 million against the cap. if the cba is renewed, we're stuck with him (unless we can trade him to some sucker willing to take on that contract). if there is no cba, then i guess we do have some leverage and we can cut him unless we want to keep him around for some minimal salary Smiley. im not sure what the rules are going into an uncapped year with existing contracts. are they all just void?

Above anything else, Ginn needs to see a therapist for his fear of being hit by a defender.  That is this kids biggest problem.  He's way to pussified to play tackle football.

Ginn is a net negative.  I'd rather not have him on the field at all, than to have him taking up a position and dropping balls.

Jason Allen has been a great contributor on special teams and provides depth to the defensive backfield.  I think the kid's got skills to play his position.  I think Ginn's got skills too, but needs to be in wide open space to use them.  I think his problem is that he is too worried about getting hit and any little jostling causes him to drop the ball.
