Am I really the only one who didn't put the Dolphins in the top 10? Seriously? And someone had them #1? Really? Someone honestly felt the Dolphins were the best team in the NFL right now? I don't believe that. I really don't.

I did have them just outside my top 10, but even that felt like homerism.

I'm surprised the Pats are in at 7, but I'm fairly critical of them.

I had the Dolphins come in at #9 this week...thought they rated that for scrapping their way to two ugly wins to start the season. I didn't have the Patriots or the Jets in my top-10 this week at all.

I'm pretty sure the rule of thumb is that if you have a tie you list both teams with the same rank, but then you skip a rank before listing the next team.  IE in your case you would have 2 #4 teams, no #5 team and then #6 and so on.

Yeah, Chiefs need to be kicked off the list. They are #11.

Look at it any way you want.  I administer the list and produced it the way I want.

So let me get this straight -

A team that is 1-1 and 0-1 on the road (and a crushing defeat, at that) is worthy of a top ten slot.  Yet the Dolphins, who have started with two road victories and are playing staggering defense, aren't (and it is homerism)?

I think some of you guys have reverse homerism going on.  You vote the Texans in to the top 5...based on what?  The 400+ yards they've surrendered in both of their wins?  The Ravens deserve to be in the top ten after squeaking out a victory over the Jets and then getting punched in the mouth by the Bengals?  The Steelers, and their fourth string QB, are a quality team - assumingly based on their defense - but Miami isn't?

A personal suggestion - vote on how the team is playing RIGHT NOW.  Not what they did last year, what you think they will do this year, what they were supposed to do this year, etc.

Miami is 2-0.  The only team in the league that started the season on the road and won both times.  ROAD victories.  One against a division foe, the second against one of the best teams in the league.  Their defense is off the charts good, right now.

Anyone that doesn't think a team in that criteria isn't worthy of a top 5 pick, based on right now - not expectations or last year - isn't watching the same guys that I am.  IMO.

The Ravens got punched in the mouth?  They gave up 5 FG's (no TD's) on a day when they gave the ball away 4 times.

I think the Dolphins deserve to be on this list based on their defense alone, but I agree that #1 is a bit high.  But that's why its a panel and not one dude's opinion.

The Ravens got punched in the mouth?

Ravens offense:
Boldin
Flacco
Rice
Heap
Houshmandzdeh
Chester (best 3rd down back in the world)
Stallworth

^^^ = Managed 10 points against the Bengals.

Yes - they very much got punched in the mouth.

Baltimore has scored 20 points on the season and has surrendered 24 (one home game, one away).

Miami has scored 29 points on the season and has surrendered 20 (two away games).

The same people stating homerism are some of the same ones that rated Baltimore above Miami.

Houston, another team that 99% of the panel rated higher than Miami:

Gave up 24 points to Indy and almost 450 total yards.  Gave up 27 points to Washington and almost 450 yards.  They couldn't stop a fat kid from getting to a piece of cake at a birthday party.  They scored a bunch of points on two teams that have suspect, at best, defenses.  And...yet...they are worthy of #1, #2 and #3 votes.  And Miami isn't.

If the Jets started the exact same way as Miami has, with road wins against Buffalo and the Vikings and playing the defense the way Miami has, the majority of this board would be voting for them at #1, #2 or #3 and saying "see?  Hard Knocks was right."

Reverse homerism at it's best.

Mine was a little out there compared to most.  I had HOU, GB and MIA at 1 2 and 3, and the Bucs at 6 I believe.

Also, I hate the Jets as much as anyone guys, but how are they below the Patriots when they have the same record and have actually beaten them?

Nice work, Maine.  Did we have 10 people this week?

I'm a little surprised that the Chiefs dropped a spot, after making the Power 10 last week, and winning their game.  No complaints, really.  I didn't vote the Bucs in.  ...I thought they'd be in there for the 2-0 record alone, but I see not.  That's good.

And though I understand it, I'm a little surprised that the Saints dropped out of the top spot with a win.  It's justifiable, but I didn't think the panel would do it.

Of the 11 teams on this list, I didn't have the Ravens on mine.  I didn't even have them on my list in the first week.  Though their defense is great, their offense is so awful that I don't take them seriously.

As for the Dolphins, I think that they deserve to be on the list, but near the bottom seems best to me.
