I started thinking about the worst movie sequels after reading the movie triology thread.  My vote would be Caddyshack 2

I know there are others that are bad, but I'll keep it close to home. I'm a HUGE fan of Ace Ventura, but part two blew chimps. TERRIBLE. I think this movie was the reason Jim Carrey doesn't do sequels. Good call, Jim.

You may have knocked it out of the park on the first pitch.  That one's a real stinker.

Death Wish.  The original was great -- actual plot, character development that raised thought provoking questions about vigilantism, revenge, gun control, justice, crime and violence.  The sequels were just stupid.

I'm assuming we are limiting this to movies where the original was a good movie (there are a bunch of sequels where the original already sucked). I have to go with Blues Brothers 2000.

Have to throw out Starship Troopers 2.  I loved the first one and didn't even know they had made a sequel until I caught it on HBO or something.  Watched about 10 minutes and turned it off it was so bad.  And now I see on IMDB that there's a 3rd.  Anyone seen it?  Is it any good?  Didn't score very high on IMDB.

Horrible, Pappy. Like you, I loved the first one. Second and third, shouldn't  even have been made.

The second one seemed more like a horror movie. I've heard they are working on a third. Didn't know it was out already.

Beastmaster 2 and 3 were horrid. Jaws 3 and 4 sucked too.

This is a hard question, because there are a bunch of sequels that were just cash-ins, that I never saw.  For example, The Blair Witch Project 2.  The first one was innovative.  The second, why even do it?

But as far as mainstream stuff, I might have to include the 2nd Matrix in there.  I really have a distaste for those movies.  It's not that it's awful, and some of the fighting and effects are cool, but I think it adds nothing in terms of story, but instead detracts.

^ I was only thinking of direct sequels (as in #2).

If we're talking about bad sequels anywhere in the series, I think that Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is an awful, awful, terrible, abomination of a film.

I liked it better than Temple of Doom. Wink

The second Jaws and the second Highlander were both abysmal sequels to good movies.

Really?  Temple of Doom was definitely corny in parts, but Crystal Skull was downright insulting.  On top of it, the plot is lame and it brings all of the bad things about Indy with none of the good things.

I don't know..Krystal Skull would have been just fine if it was a comic book or cartoon. That's what it reminded me of. I only like it SLIGHTLY better than Temple of Doom.

Crystal Skulls lost me at Shia LeBeouf swinging through the forest on vines like Tarzan.  From that point forth, ridiculous.  I say that full well knowing that I was able to accept Indy surviving a nuclear explosion by hiding in a fridge.  I'm fickle like that.
