I think if the season for 5-5 Miami ends badly and out of the playoffs, Sparano could be in trouble based on one factor:

Jon Gruden.

I am told by a source that Gruden -- former Raiders and Bucs coach-turned-broadcaster, and a Super Bowl winner -- holds the imagination of the Dolphins' celebrity-driven owner Stephen Ross.

"A source" this morning told me that the Dolphins are really close to re-signing Don Shula to be their next head coach. Sure, that source may have been a homeless dude outside the Panera Bread where I was getting my coffee, but he was wearing an old weathered Dolphins cap, so I assumed he had enough tenure within the organization to qualify as a legitimate source.

I wouldn't go that far. He is a better head coach than Sparano who we have now. So off the bat its an upgrade. And Gruden had success in 2 stops. Oakland and Tampa, so I wouldn't write him off so quick. The guy can coach

If there's one coach I'd love to see in Miami next year, it would be Jim Harbaugh from Stanford.

Harbaugh seems different from Saban though.  He doesn't have that Napoleon Complex that Saban had.  Also, being a college coach, he can relate better to most of the Dolphins as they are a young team. 

He played QB in the NFL for a number of years and has turned Stanford back into a powerhouse.

IF we got a new coach, Harbaugh would be on my list as well.

Harbaugh is worth giving an interview to.  Kick the tires see what is there. But we are coming off Saban, Cam, and Sparano. 3 rookie NFL head coaches with no NFL Head Coaching experience.

While I think Harbaugh will be a good NFL head coach, Miami's situation is we need someone who has been around the block once or twice as an NFL Head Coach who can take us to that next level

I am not supporting letting Sparano go; I think a new O-coordinator and another solid draft could make a big difference.

With that said...

I actually think Gruden would be a great fit in Miami.  If he would retain Mike Nolan, I think the combo could be stellar.  I don't trust Gruden to make all the personnel moves so I am working under the assumption that Ireland or someone comperable would be GM.

I know everyone wants to bust on Gruden for eating Dungy's leftovers but don't forget the work he did with the Raiders.  That team went from suck to pretty damn good and with decent consistency.

At the very least I think the team would be more enjoyable to watch.

Ireland sucks. So I would want someone better as a GM. Someone with a better track record. I mean Pat White, Sean Smith, Patrick Turner and insulting Dez Bryant by calling his mom a hooker...no talent and no class out of our GM! Those above mentioned items will probably be the death nail of Jeff Ireland's GM career once he leaves Miami. Whether it be after this season or if he happens to survive whenever his time in Miami ends. I can't see another team giving Ireland control as GM with those red flags on his resume
