Given his troubles in college last season, particularly with shotgun, I have noticed about 5 or 8 VERY high snaps to Henne in shotgun last night.  One of which almost went over his head, if not for a reaching stab.

Anyone else concerned that this has not been addressed and might develop into a game-costing problem?

No, I'm not concerned. I'm sure that with practice it will become automatic.

Not concerned because if it is a constant problem, Incognito can be a serviceable center and Pouncey will be our stud guard instead of our stud center.  Either way he's a stud.

I'm halfway between the three posts above... I think he's a beast of a blocker who should improve in the shotgun with more practice. If he needs to move to G because he can't work out the snap, then we'll have a monster G to go next to our monster LT...

As a Gator fan, I sweated out every snap last year.  I don't think this guy is natural center.  It shouldn't take 1.5 seasons to correct his problems.

He can block like a beast, though.

You don't think he had practice last year as a Gator?  I would think, given last year's troubles in Gainesville, he'd be practicing shotgun snaps 20 hours a day....

I'm sure he's practiced like crazy, but nothing changed the results in Gainsville.  His snaps were all over the place.  That was one of the Gator's big problems last season.  The QB didn't know where the ball would go when it was hiked.  So instead of reading defenses, QB is making sure he's ready for wherever the snap would be.  It was a common occurrence.

I admit it is on my mind. I have to wonder if he has a mental block or something because if its mechanics I would have thought they would have corrected it by now. like everyone else I think worst case scenario we will find a place for him where he will certainly benefit us.

Watching Lex Hilliard look better than Thomas, seeing Henne's erradict performance in the two games, and wondering if Marshall will get in the end zone more than 3 times- no, Pouncey is not on my big list of worries at the moment. -EK

Hate to sound like a tool here, but my honest answer is this:

I am more worried about what Henne does with the ball, once he gets it, then I am Pouncey getting it to him in the s-gun.  I really am.

Pouncey is the least of our concerns.

I admit, my watching of the Gators last season was casual at best. I did watch the game where Pouncey had those struggles but wasn't it really just that one game? I never saw a highlight reel of him blowing snaps at any other game. The Gators biggest problem was much more about what the QBs did (sorry to jump on that train Maine but I think there is space for us both).

That one snap the other night had some really bad potential but Henne made a good play on it. I didn't notice anything else to really complain about. Is this just a case of the one incredibly bad game still carrying over?

I watched the game again last night and there were a couple other "high" snaps, but nothing that Henne didn't handle just fine. I don't think 1 "near miss" is anything to worry about especially this early in the season. If he still has one "near miss" every game 3 or 4 games into the season then yes it might be a cause of concern.

Right now I'm not concerned.

it wasn't just the 1 "near miss" - it is the constant high snaps.  That's an accident waiting to happen.  Why wait till it costs us a game before you fix it?

Just sayin' he's had problems in the past and you can still see signs of it.  Its a concern that appears to be overlooked.

Indeed, Pouncey was not the Gator's biggest problem.  But he was one of many that should have been easily fixable.
In Week 1 last year, I believe Pouncey was responsible for at least 7 completely missed snaps in one game (i.e. between the feet, over the head, off to the side, etc.)
He got better, but there were still major problems with his ability to get the ball back to the QB week after week.

I hope the high snaps on Friday night were just preseason crap he had to work through.  Hopefully, the coaching staff in the NFL can fix his issues.  But I remember sweating EACH snap of the ball last year with the Gators and don't want a repeat performance in Miami.
