BTW you can always tell the old Dolphin fans (true also Jets fans) from the younger ones by who they hate more.  Older Dolphin fans hate the Jets most, younger ones hate the Patriots most.  Same deal with the Jets fans the older ones hate the Dolphins most the younger the Patriots.  For many younger Pats (although not quite as universal) the number one hated teams is the Colts.

Brian Fein apparently hates the Bills most, so I'm not sure how that fits in your theory.

Just like any example, there will be outliers. I think Hoodie is right about his theory. I guess you would consider me a younger fan, in that while I hate both teams, I actually secretely rooted for the Jets over the Pats in some games.

In previous discussions about the most hated teams, you have repeatedly brought up the Bills (ostensibly because of the '90s?).

For example, when JT went to the Jets last year, you said that would be like Bryan Cox going to the Bills.  I mentioned that Cox played for both the Jets and the Patriots, and you dismissed it.

I thought the older fans would hate the Bills.  I remember them always kicking our asses and the whole Bryan Cox thing but I was too young to actually really care.  I don't know who the real old fogeys who watched them in the '70s would hate.  Grin

People my age hate the Jets and the younger ones hate the Pats.  I agree.

In my case it goes back to before the Bills made those runs. The Jets were our biggest rival before the Bills heyday.

Did anyone hate the Colts the most when they were in our division?

For a brief time when I was young, yes.  I remember Jim Harbough pulling plays out his ass and it drove me crazy.

I believe the analogy was in reference to Bryan Cox's outspoken and documented hatred for the Bills, since during his career with the Dolphins, they were the biggest rival.  He was reported to had urinated on the "Bill" logo at midfield at Rich Stadium, as well as the famous middle-finger incident.  In that context, it was in comparison to Jason Taylor's outspoken and documented hatred of the Jets.

To be noted - Bryan Cox playing for the Jets and Patriots has the same affect with respect to the Bills (i.e. division rival) as the Dolphins.

But I guess you just missed the entire point of my comparison, and instead replaced it with "Brian must really hate the Bills..."  That's OK too...

So rather than continue to work from memory, I found the Bryan Cox thread in question.  And to your credit, you did say that you are "indifferent about the Bills now, since they are no threat."  So that's my mistake.

However, you did also say that "[T]he hatred at the time was Buffalo.  The Jets and Pats both sucked back then.  Our biggest rival in the early 90's was Buffalo by far!"  So you were still the appropriate person for me to cite  (re: this thread); you're an older Dolphin fan who hated the Bills, but no longer does.

Chalk one up me then. I have said before that I hate the Bills more than the Jets, and I continue to do so no matter how much they suck. Read what Guru said for reference as to why. The Jets may be Miami's biggest rivalry, but there was nothing more heartbreaking to witness growing up than what Buffalo did to Miami during 13's prime. Fuck Buffalo right in the ear. Glad they blow, may it continue for years to come.

My two fav teams- Miami and whoever the Jets are playing. LOVED the Aaron Rodgers' quote about Sanchez and his ridiculous GQ spread: "
"Look at this, that's embarrassing... page 94 of this GQ thing here, that's terrible."  -EK

its pretty embarrassing to be a dolphins fan and hope the jets lose rather than see the dolphins win.

I think it is a bit of a stretch to call a fan of the Dolphins in the '90s (even if it was the early '90s) an older Dolphin fan.
