another example of why I hate sports media,as much as I dislike the Patriots,I really don't think Brady was trying to incite a riot or drunken violence at Foxboro.....that will pretty much happen on its own

It was clear in context that what he wanted was loud fans. Brady has complained about lack of fan noise on a few occasions.

As for drunken violence at Foxboro.  Actually it one of the better stadiums.  Stadium is almost all STH.  And with the super long waiting list, Pats have no problem yanking the tickets of anyone who won't behave.  Sell/give your ticket to someone who misbehaves and you lose your ST so folks are pretty careful.

Brady is an idiot for saying what he said. Don't blame the media here.

Just as stupid as what Rex said last week about Cowboys fans wearing their jerseys in his stadium.

It's just dumb. Its the year 2011 and you can't say those things anymore. Not after what happened this preseason between Oak-SF. And not after what happened in MLB with the Giants-Dodgers. And hell a guy even snuck a stun gun into the game Sunday Night.

YOU CAN'T SAY THESE THINGS ANYMORE! Society has changed, agree or disagree, saying what Brady said was not responsible.

Not the smartest thing in the world to say.  However, it's not exactly going to cause an eruption in the moral fabric of American society either.

People drink before and during football games.  Not like he just let out a bunch of shit on wikileaks now is it?

Not responsible?

So, the NFL is irresponsible in raking in millions in ad revenue from these booze companies?  So what's the official stance on booze?  "Drink our stuff and drink it often in large quantities if you wanna have a good time just don't do it while watching the sport we are the 'official beer' of."  I'm sure all those Miller Lite and Bud Light commercials that air 87876 times a Sunday are intended to make people want to go out and volunteer in animal shelters and donate money to charities, not drink their shit.

No society hasn't changed, the media has. Players aren't saying anything different today then what they said 20 years ago, the difference is now it spreads around the internet like it's news.  20 years ago Brady would have gotten a chuckle out of the local news media, maybe someone puts it in an article in the paper and maybe in New England there's a few people that object to it, but the rest of the world is oblivious to the fact he ever said it. That's what has changed.

Unfortunately, society has changed. It's gotten too PC to accept this as nothing other than a joke.

My point is that 20 years ago "society" wouldn't have known what Tom Brady said to the local media. Society hasn't changed, they would have been just as offended 20 years ago, they just wouldn't have known about it to be offended.

But if you go back 30 years ago, almost nobody would have been offended at all even if they thought he was serious.

Societies attitude (for the better I might add) has substantially changed towards drunk driving.  Only 25-30 years ago driving drunk was consider not much more of big deal than littering.

I'm not all that sure why anybody's offended to begin with.  He said "Start drinking early."  There's nothing offensive in that statement unless you're so anti-alcohol you want to go back to prohibition, in which case, you probably need your head examined anyways.

I don't believe that.  Your average guy wouldn't have been offended 20 or 30 years ago just like today, but there are definately people that would be. MADD has been around since I was a kid. There are many people that don't think you should drink let alone drink and drive, etc. But 30 years ago those people wouldn't have even known who Tom Brady was let alone known what he said. It's different today. Not just the media, but the media surrounding the NFL is different. MUCH more visible today than when I was a kid. When Tom Brady says something like this now it goes out over Twitter and Facebook and millions of non NFL watching folks that 30 years ago would have been oblivious to it suddenly know about it. The chances that someone who thinks it's a big deal reads it has increased about 100 fold. There's no denying that.
