Why does everyone call Tannehill a WR turned QB?

Ryan Tanehill was recruited as a QB. He chose to play WR instead of being a back up. They don't call QBs who sat the bench unitl they could play QB benchwarmers turned QB so why do they call him a WR? I just don't understand that other than ignorance in knowing the situation.

He started 20 games at quarterback in college, including all of his final season. That's low, but far from unheard of for quarterbacks drafted in  the first round.

Anyway, not sure how valid the comparison is, but I don't think I'm going to go through every first round qb in the past 20 years in any event.

Purely as a fun fact, I do recall that Matt Cassell never started a game in college.

I also seem to recall that Pat White started rather many games in college (and did reasonably well).

Matt castellated couldn't get I the field for a team that lost 3 games his soph Jr. and sr year vs Tannehill who couldn't get on the field for a below avg team.

I honestly don't see how there is any confusion, let alone discussion. He- by your own statement and by point of fact- played WR, and then played QB. The assessment that Tannehill is a WR turned QB is accurate.

Tannehill had switched back to QB in college, and has played every game of his 4 NFL seasons as a QB.

So it's pretty ridiculous to characterize Gase's job as "converting Tannehill from WR."  That's like saying that Bill Callahan's job, upon taking over the Raiders from Jon Gruden, was to "convert" Charles Woodson from a WR to a DB.

Matt Cassel also played TE, WR and half back to get on the field. He just wasn't as successful as Tannehill.

LOL ... Are you stating that you have have no obligation to make any sort of rationale argument because the Miami Dolphins may or may not have given Tannhehill a justified contract? That's one of the most rediculous  "it's their fault I'm being childish" resonse I have ever seen. At least own up to the fact you hate the guy/organization or whatever and feel the need to troll people to feel better.  Don't patty cake it.

I'm not patty caking anything. It's a pot/kettle situation. No one that still blindly defends Tannehill's play and excuses his lack of development by pointing fingers at other offensive players should be calling me out on a lack of rationality. There's an entire thread with metrics demonstrating that his poor play is much more on him than his Oline, and through 13 pages of it, you guys still believe what you want. That's the exact opposite of rational thought.

Re. this thread, I pointed out the flaw in your original stance. Like it or not, Tannehill IS a QB who played WR. It's a pointless debate.
