As people continue to go further from the middle either war or succession will happen during our lifetimes ... assuming we live to reasonably old age.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10050039/More-HALF-Trump-voters-want-red-states-secede-union.html
Over 75% of voters on both sides agree that strong supporters of the opposite party present a 'clear and present danger' to American life

A new poll has revealed that political divisions run so deep in the US that over half of Trump voters want red states to secede from the union, and 41% of Biden voters want blue states to split off.

According to the analysis from the University of Virginia's Center for Politics, 52% of Trump voters at least somewhat agree with the statement: 'The situation is such that I would favor [Blue/Red] states seceding from the union to form their own separate country.' Twenty-five percent of Trump voters strongly agree.

I don't think this goes any further than a thought exercise.  When it became a reality, people would be against, on both sides.

Also, you can't really split red and blue states because they aren't contiguous.  I think that the big blue states, specifically California and New York produce way too much money to float the smaller red states that there would be economic problems for the red states...they do have natural resources, but they'd have to lean real heavy on coal and oil.  It would be an interesting experiment to see what happens, but I think that everyone would be hurt by it.

Not gonna happen. While the voters may want it, it's a lot harder to actually come up with a plan and the president/congress isn't gonna just let it happen.

Yeah, the same problems as always:

1) What happens to all the Republicans in California and New York, or the Democrats in Texas and Florida?  If "Just move if you don't like it" were a realistic solution, secession wouldn't be necessary in the first place.
2) Show me how to divide the US into two ideologically-compatible countries and not something like five

Even more importantly, how do you determine which state goes where?  20 years ago, Colorado, Virginia, and Nevada would have been in the New Confederacy, while Iowa, West Virginia, and Ohio would have remained in the Union.  Are we going to be trading states every few years as the population of each state realigns?
