I think this experiment is over.

I see it said that he has potential, but I've never seen it.  He doesn't seem to make the most of any situation and he's not progressing.  I know it's still new in his career, but I'm just not seeing anything to work with.  The guy who played after him looked fine with what he had.  Ewers just looks completely lost and I think it might be both mental and physical mistakes.  Nothing looks like its working.

Last year, he was significantly worse than the guy who got fired, so I'm not sure what people were expecting.  Seems to me like the same sort of "No player has more potential than the backup QB" situation that we saw with Skyler, where every preseason there was all this talk about how impressive he was, and in the regular season (and the playoffs!) he just shit the bed over and over.

There is a difference between looking good in the preseason against back up players and then shitting the bed against starters in the regular season and looking good against starters in the regular season and then shitting the bed against the backup in preseason. 

The first is pretty normal because you are playing against weaker players and then stronger.  The second shouldn't happen unless the player gets injured or something really odd happens.

Lucky for us, Ewers has looked good against neither, so there is no conflict.

I'm not too concerned about this. He is only the backup. If it were Malik we were talking about it would be a different story and it's not like we are expecting the Dolphins to be good anyway. If Malik goes down the season is over. If he doesn't go down and just plays poorly the season is over. I'm not worried about whether Ewers is the backup or not.

I hate to break it to you but the season is over before the 1st snap of the new season.  This season is about getting new guys some reps and seeing if the new coaching staff has a clue what they should be doing.

Fair enough, but there's still a lot to be learned from this year. We need to find out whether Malik is a legit starting QB or we will need to spend a 1st round pick next year on one. We need to find out if the offensive line can pass block. We need to find out if we have a #1 and #2 WR on the team or we need to draft one or both next year. It will be hard to determine these things if Malik isn't playing unless he's just playing poorly than at least we'll know the answer to whether or not we need to draft a QB in the 1st round next year.
