No disrespect, Doc, but I think you are on serious hallucinogens or something...I can't see Beck being better than "any" of those QBs, including Matt Moore (who I believe to be the worst of that group).

Well, maybe not SERIOUS hallucinogenics  Wink.  But really, even if you don't agree, how far off from those guys is he really.  I also was bothered by his fumbles, but you have to look at the big picture and not let your mind be sidetracked by a few very frustrating plays.  Anyway, I know there will be no real change in your mind on this topic unless he gets a legit shot as a starter so I will let it go.

Actually, it would take "being successful" when given a legit shot as a starter to change my mind, rather than just getting the opportunity. The way QBs frequently get hurt in the NFL, I fully expect he'll get another chance to start...I just think don't feel he'll be successful at it.

As far as looking at the big picture goes, I really am not a "selective critic." There isn't a single minute of on-field time for John Beck during his time in Miami that I didn't watch, and in most cases, tivo'ed to watch multiple times. When I made that widely-guffawed prediction of "John Beck will never start another game for Miami" immediately after his final start for Miami, the prediction was made with the big picture in complete clarity.

I'd like to get a little larger sample size on Pat White before I summarily flush him down the porcelain waiver wire, especially where he's actually "passing" the ball, but what I've seen so far from Pat definitely hasn't been promising.

The problem that I have with Pat White doesn't stop at his passing.  I saw nothing in him last year that convinced me he can run the ball effectively either.  He had what 1 run that resulted in more than about 3 yards and how many runs that gained negative yardage?  I'd be willing to cut him a little slack if he showed me he could at least be a running threat.

I don't think they really knew how to use Pat White last year.  I would say about 90% of his runs were up the middle, which doesn't make a lot of sense to me.  I know that the next thought will be that one of his outside runs resulted in a concussion but I am not so worried about that; he will learn to take it out of bounds in that situation in the future.

I think this option thing can actually work if the O-line could just hold a block like they are supposed to.  I think he had an option play in one of the Patriots games that he was hit almost as he caught the ball on the snap and in trying to get the ball to the option player it resulted in a fumble situation.  But if you look at most of the option plays, they actually resulted in a few touchdowns and his long run that you are referring to.

Finally, he was part of several red zone plays that resulted in touchdowns.  I will grant you that Ricky and Ronnie did the ball handling, but White did seem to draw a great deal of the defenders attention on those plays.

I would love to know what audibles he was allowed to make.  It looked like he was given an option on nearly every play and he almost always checked off to a handoff up the middle or keeper up the middle.  I am curious how many of his pre-play reads (if any) were considered correct by the coaches.

I love the way Hoodie ONLY defends ex Dolphins. He was all over Beck while he was here. Seriously, should you be on a Patriots board this time of the season? How fucking pathetic are you?

Actually.  I never said anything specifically bad about Beck.

The only negitive post I ever made about Beck was part of a larger post comparing the Dolphins to the Patriots before the second match up of the 2007 season.  In it listed all the starting QB the NEP had since 2002 and all the starting QBs the Dolphins had during the same period.  Beck's name was listed as one among one of about a dozen, NE had only one name.

BTW I am not saying Beck is any good.  I am just saying he never had a fair shot.

I believe beck is like 30 already. Too small and soft for tuna but still a better prospect than White. The problem i have W/ both is the second rounder we spent on them. The wildcat is just a gimmick it had its time and place but for such a straight shooter like coach it just does'nt fit his m.o. I wish they would let it go i dont think we need it anymore. Henne, marshall and the rest need to get into a comfort zone i think forcing the wildcat at times hinders that. So even drafting White was ominous i guess we lost that nose tackle too the pats and we took the best available talent even though he was hell bent on staying a q.b. (who cant even throw the damn ball) ahhh!!!

And White has?  He is every much the Rookie that Beck was while he was here. Why doesn't he deserve a second chance to redeem himself? Oh thats right........He's still a dolphin isn't he? About the only chance he has of getting any Praise from you is to get cut.  My point is you have become very good at disguising making fun of the Phins as just ordinary discussion.  Hell if you just wanted to discuss Football you would be on a Patriots board wouldn't you?
