I don't like the guy.  Maybe I'm a traitorous swine (or maybe he is).  I thought that some of my love for the guy might carry over when I saw him, but there is none.  Every time he was on the screen, I was like "screw that guy".  Normally I'm not vindictive, but there's something about the way he left our team that left a bad taste in my mouth and soured how I thought of him.

I am neutral about him, but most seem to have an intense visceral hatred for him now.

This.  I hope he has a horrible year.

I don't get why there is some much hate towards Jason Taylor as compared to other players who left the Fish.

Because he went to a rival?  I have never seen a bad word written here about Wes Welker.

JT - not given an offer to stay by the Dolphins; not a single other team calls him but the Jets, signs with the Jets.  As of yet has done nothing to help the division rival in any meaningful manner.

WW - is given an offer (in the form of a RFA tender); refuses the offer, signs a deal with NEP containing posion pills that makes it impossible for the Dolphins to match the offer.  He didn't just want more money or an offer of the length the Pats was offering, he wanted out of Mia and wanted to play for NE.  Since leaving the Fins he has greatly helped a Dolphin rival and in games done quite a bit to hurt his former team.

If I was a Dolphin's fan (which I am not) I would hate WW a lot more than JT.

Wes Welker was traded.

You didn't hear any of this talk when JT was traded to the Redskins, did you?

Wes Welker forced the trade.  He didn't have to sign an offer sheet containing poison pills.

He didn't force the trade.  MIA could have done nothing and gotten whatever draft pick MIA valued him at with the tender offer (I think it was a third).

I'm probably a bad person to ask though, since I don't hate JT.  He signed with the team that wanted him.  MIA wouldn't even offer him a contract.

I'll tell you why.

Jason Taylor was very outspoken here about hating the Jets.  He was part of those great rivalry games, and there are some nice photos of him giving the loser sign, heckling with fans, etc.  Of all of our players (since Brian Cox, at least) Taylor was the face of that rivalry.

So, for him to leave on his own (where I believe that a little bit of patience would've allowed him to stay on our roster) to play for the Jets, to me, is unforgivable.  It also paints him as a fraud, in my mind...and the very definition of a traitor.

Welker is an entirely different story.  First off, as much as some new fans might think, our Patriots rivalry doesn't touch our Jets rivalry....it's not even close.  The Pats only matter right now, because they are good.  The Jets rivarly is a deep-seeded hatred.  Also, Welker wasn't with us that long, he was underutilized here, and he never really bled Aqua and Orange like JT did (or claimed to).  Welker wasn't the face of our franchise for a decade.

I was rooting for him last night.  Not the Jets, but for him.  When he came up and made a couple of tackles I was actually happy for him.  Now when he plays the Dolphins I hope he's shut out, but the rest of the time I'll be happy for him.

I guess the difference is that I'm not a Jets hater like many of you seem to be.  I don't like the Jets, but I don't hate them.  Maybe it's just because I'm not from Miami and didn't become a Dolphin fan until I was maybe 13 or 14.  It's not ingrained in me to hate the Jets. Smiley

Plus the fact that he's great friends with Zach, married to his sister etc and the fact that I love Zach being from Tech and all gives him bonus points with me.

JT talked to Marino and Zach and asked their opinions of him playing for the hated rival.  They gave their blessings.  Since the Dolphins didn't want him, and he still felt he could play I'm not sure what else he could have done.

It sure does look weird to me seeing JT in green and white, but I have no ill will in my heart for him.  He did it the right way.
