Just asking, i decided to get into 2 leagues, both auctions which i like more than standard draft. I may join 1 or 2 more since auctions are fun, you can get any player you want while keeping to a budget.

Just a Question, what does Game line mean

First teams Game lines were - 25 and +25
Second teams game lines were -31.5 and -17.5

One thing i didn't realize my second team i drafted today and yet the results from the first week count and i am already 1-0. I thought it wouldn't count.

I am in just one this year, the least for me in many years. It was also an auction which is fun, but I hate how the league is run. Are those game lines for each week? They could be the matchup - IE the first team was expected to lose by 25 in week 1 and win by 25 in week 2? Maybe?

Season's started already...you can stop drafting new fantasy teams now.

I've never really gotten into Fantasy.  I hear a lot about it from my students but don't really understand it.  From what I've gathered, you pick players and your score depends on how those players produce in a given week.  To me, that sounds absurd because some of my students are of the mentality that "I don't care who wins as long as my guys get their numbers"

Fantasy football is really fun.  It helps give you interest in games that you might not otherwise care about and it keeps you in touch with the league.  It's a good supplement to the regular wins/losses of following your favorite team.

The biggest downside is it can create conflicts in rooting interest.  Let's say your fantasy QB is Favre and the person you are playing against this week has Henne.  Well then your FF rooting interest would be different than your Dolphin fan rooting interest.

I'd be happy to lose a fantasy game if Chad Henne or another Fin were to lead the team to a victory.

I've run into rooting interest problems in the past, but fantasy is only fantasy.  The Fins winning games is real.  Not much of a conflict of interest when you look at it.  One must prioritize and fantasy will always come in behind Dolphin interests.

I think that you just have to prioritize your desires.

Mine works like this:

1) Dolphins winning and doing well against their opponents.
2) Teams win/lose that help Dolphins move in standings.
3) Fantasy players doing well.
4) Wins/Losses for teams that I like/dislike outside of Dolphins sphere.

If you play in a free league, that is easy.  In a money league not as much.

Final game the last year I played in a money league week 16 (championship) I had $350 riding on Brady and the Pats defense doing poorly and the opposing QB and runningback doing well. Not so easy to root against $350.

I'm in 4 leagues and it's beginning to be too much to keep up with.

I started playing about 20 years ago when few people had even heard of it and kept most of the stats myself.  I would spend a couple hours on Monday's pouring thru the newspaper gathering all the stats and plugging them into my custom built spreadsheet and distributing it to everyone.  Draft day was the best because everyone was in a room going thru the players one by one criticizing every last selection and cursing the guy who picked your player right before you.

Today it's just not the same and I find myself paying less and less attention.  It's impossible now to "scoop" the others in the league because there's so much information on every player available to everyone at the click of button.  You really can't pride yourself on finding a sleeper, they've all already been found and reported on.

It's been fun, but I think next year I'm gonna have to turn down a couple of invitations to leagues that I have played in for years, I just don't enjoy it as much as I used to.

I'm in two league (I was in 3 a few years ago, but it was too much.)  Two is the perfect balance for me.  I'm also not in leagues where the money amount will compromise my enjoyment of watching the games.  (One league is $50 entry, the other is $25.)  The money serves as incentive to pay attention (free leagues just are too easy to give up on) but not feel too much like gambling.

I have Favre on one team and I benched him this week to avoid the conflict.  But generally I subscribe to Dave's theory

I am in the tdmmc league and a league for the other sports board  that I belong to.  I am with everyone here that said what's good for the Dolphins trumps what's good for the fantasy team(s).

PS - No way am I benching Brady when the Fins play the Pats.

^^ ^ That.

Two leagues was my max. But the last two years I've done one and I'm extremely happy just like that. Gone are the days of rooting for a player I have on one team, but in the other league I'm playing the guy who has that same player.

If you play in a free league, that is easy.  In a money league not as much.

I hear ya, but the longer you play, the easier it is to separate the head from the heart. When I am watching the 49ers or Dolphins, I "never" cheer for anything negative to happen to those teams, regardless of the fantasy consequences. I was in one league finals match-up last season where I had the defense facing the 49ers on my fantasy squad, and close to $500 riding on it. The thoughts "man, stop those 49ers from scoring" or "come on, force a 49ers turnover" never once entered my head.

Cheer with the heart, manage with the head...and keep a wall between them at all times.
