The defensive co-ordinator, whom had since the schedule was released to prepare for this game, to have your DT unit give up 600+ total yards of offense and the fifth most passing yards all time at home on MNF.

I don't mean to sound like tepop but that performance could warrant firing the DT co-ordinator.

^^^ You can count the number of positive things you and Tepop have ever said about the Dolphins on the thumbs of a quadriplegic...

Shame of the game goes to anyone who focuses on the defensive issues today instead of the fact that we got 475 yards out of Chad Henne (416 passing, 59 rushing), without a single turnover (except the ricochet pick on the last-play desperation heave).

I have to give it to Mike Nolan as well.  This defense was not ready.  Sad to say, they still can't cover a pass catching tight end.  New England just exposed this vaunted defense on national TV.  Now the entire NFL will see this and gameplan accordingly.

Nolan Carroll had a rough night as did the rest of the defense.  However there are two SOTG gameballs to hand out.

Benny Sapp for getting beaten on 3 touchdowns, bouncing off a guy at the five yardline instead of tackling him, and getting burned repeatedly by a tight end.  Insert "Average Unnamed NFL Nickelback" in Sapp's place and we're probably in overtime.

Brian Daboll for having no semblance of a running game.  I realize when we got behind we had to throw, but 4th and goal from the 1 foot line and we throw a fade?  And what was that shit with Soliai in the backfield and he runs to the line and then pass blocks nobody? I'm pretty sure Chad Henne was our rushing yards leader tonight.

I don't understand why nfl teams throw so much from the 1 yard line.  like the cowboys game last night, they run on first down, then go shotgun and almost throw a pick 6, the shotgun again and romo scrambles forward and fumbles.  like wtf.

How many plays did sapp blow vs. carroll.  i thought most of them were carroll (28), I know the welker one was sapp.  Sean smith still sucks too. and vontae talked a big game and was garbage.

Sapp got burned on the Welker TD, He got burned repeatedly by Gronkowski in the first half, they threw another touchdown over him and when Hernandez caught the ball at the 5 it was Sapp who bounced off him instead of actually trying to tackle him.

Sapp is a pile of ashes right now somewhere around the 30 yard line where he fell trying to chase Wes Welker.
It's one thing when a guy gets beat, but you're nickel corner and you can't cover a tight end?  And it wasn't like they were lobs over his head and Gronkowski beat him with his height advantage.  He just fucking ran by him on a number of crossing routes.

Carroll had a run of bad plays on one series against Deion Branch and gave up a TD.

Carroll and Sapp were garbage.  I've always disliked Sapp, but Carroll is creeping up on him as my most hated player on this team.

Our DBs as a whole sucked major ass tonight.  Smith, Davis, Sapp and especially Carrol.  They looked horrendous.  Granted, I understand it was against Tom Freakin' Brady but damn, 517 yards is unacceptable.  Our DBs could NOT COVER THEIR TEs.  Pretty pathetic no matter who their QB is if you ask me.

My vote is for the strength and conditioning coach.

You can't put this on Mike Nolan.  He can draw up the defense, but when your players are limping around the field like they've been shot and your best DB is on the sideline with cramps, what is he supposed to do, suit up and get out there?

Mike Nolan isn't the one that made the decision to keep 6 WRs and 5 TEs.  He is not responsible for the garbage depth we have at DB, nor is he (primarily) responsible for them being completely out of shape.

I'm with ya on a few things here, BigDaddy (damn, that sounds weird callin' you that.   Cheesy ).  First of all, I thought Sapp was even more worthless than Carroll was, though both of their *performances* were pretty heinous either way...I'd just say that Sapp's was more consistently heinous, aside from that one heads-up play he made early in the 3rd quarter that of course led to Odrick's INT.  idk, maybe Sapp was just out there more than Carroll since he's supposed to be our nickel corner, but either way, he just got routinely toasted tonight.

Like you, I was also wondering about some of those questionable/terrible goal line plays, like when Soliai was in there (why?  Seriously, what did he offer on that play besides being a big fatty?  He didn't even really try to block anybody) as well as the 4th and goal fade.  My buddy and I were both screamin' about that one, and he's not even a Dolphins fan.

I don't understand why nfl teams throw so much from the 1 yard line.  like the cowboys game last night, they run on first down, then go shotgun and almost throw a pick 6, the shotgun again and romo scrambles forward and fumbles.  like wtf.

You're right here, too, Tepop.  I think there's plenty of blame to go 'round in the secondary for this one, though I would say that Sapp and Carroll were particularly bad offenders.  I'm actually not sure how bad Smith was just because I felt like when he started giving up plays, it was after I first noticed him hurting/cramping up or whatever, but maybe I just didn't realize it was him earlier in the game if/when it was.  Vontae was particularly disappointing after all that talk he'd been doing.  He didn't seem to be doing jack shit out there, either.  Like I said, plenty of blame to go around!

Carroll and Sapp were garbage.  I've always disliked Sapp, but Carroll is creeping up on him as my most hated player on this team.

And finally.....This.  Sapp's definitely one of my least faves on the team right now, if not my least fave.  That still pisses me off that we traded him for Camarillo (because one of my other "least faves", even if he did have a TD for us today, is Brian Hartline, and I wish we had Camarillo still just to bench Hartline for him)...really bad.  As for Carroll, I had high hopes for him, and while it's still early in the young guy's career, it seems like when he gets put out there, he doesn't make many positive plays and mostly has negative ones if he's noticed.

I mean, it's pretty bad when I'm watching it with a *neutral* fan (he's a Bengals fan, not a 'Phins fan, but like any self-respecting human being, he despises the Patriots  Smiley ), and of course he's gonna try to at least be nice about the Dolphins around me, and even he's saying (not just agreeing, but stating it of his own accord) that "#27 and #28's asses need to be sitting on the bench".  Undecided

*sigh* All of this negativity just to say--at least our offense looked good other than a few mediocre offensive linemen!   Grin

My vote is for the strength and conditioning coach.

In a normal year, I'd second this, but with the lockout, the coaches had to trust in the players to do their own conditioning. Our D was sucking wind like mad out there... clearly, they flunked the trust test.

We brought in Burnett in part to deal with tight ends... he got blown away the few times he was in coverage. Carroll and Sapp were equally useless when they got the chance. However...

My shame of the game goes to...

The D-line

They got manhandled all day. The O-line wasn't much better, but Brady consistently had way too much time in the pocket.

HM goes to Cameron Wake, who had rookie Nate Solder 1-on-1. I think I saw Wake win that match up once or twice ALL GAME. That's just not good enough.

This is the shame of the game thread.  A weekly feature even when the Dolphins win, which they did not.  Slamming the defense in the Game Balls vs NEP would be inappropriate.  Something Dolphster did not Tepop.  It should also be noted that Tepop started the game ball thread and complemented Henne in it.

In an game in which you LOSE, there are obviously things that went bad.  You are completely off base to call Tepop to task for pointing out the weakness of the Dolphins in a lose in a thread dedicated to pointing out the weaknesses of the Dolphins.
